It's funny that up until the early 70's that people bitched and moaned about how Los Estados Unitos (the Great Satan) would fight a war, win and spend the next however many years rebuilding the defeated. Like the rebuilding of Germany and Japan after WWII. After Viet Nam that strategy seemed to be replaced by conquering then getting the fuck out...or staying until it wasn't adventageous anymore. And people bitch and now because every broken vase hasn't been fixed. I'm not really saying one strategy or the other is the better. It's more like I'm saying everyone will never be happy. War is a grim business, no matter which "side" of the political fence pulls the trigger.
