@Northrup
MY idea of progressivism, and YOUR idea of libertarianism. We are probably close on social issues. I am first, a civil libertarian. ACLU type. The ENTIRE Bill of Rights, including the 2nd Amendment. Freedom for people. You should be allowed to smoke pot with your gay spouse while you clean your guns, etc.
Corporations are not people.
Part of freedom in America is a chance at the "American Dream", or at least the chance to get an education, decent employment, housing, etc. A free and just society does take care of handicapped, mentally ill, etc. We also need consumer protections to ensure safety and fair play in the market.
I'd like to see an efficient and fair private health care system, but it is badly broken. It doesn't work for the people. That's why the Gov't had to step in. I actually hope it is enough, that the insurance companies quit fucking people for profit, that somehow it leans out so a third of the money isn't pissed away on paperwork and management. But, we must have a system where everyone can get health care at an affordable price, that should be a given in a decent society.
Health care, actually, is one of the things that probably shouldn't be done for profit. Neither should prisons, soldiers, law enforcement, the list is not too long. I don't want to be Disneylanded by a rent-a-cop if I run a stop sign; if a contract cop kicks in the wrong door and kills an innocent family member, who do you sue?
You just don't like taxes. I bet you threw a fit when the 1st grade teacher made you share your new box of 64 crayons with the others. Or something like that.
Reagan was wrong, Government is not the problem. Letting people who don't like government, run the Government, is the problem.
How'd that unregulated free market, and tax cuts for the rich, work out?
