Mr. Steinbrenner has passed away. Jerry Jones, Mark Cuban, Dan Snyder and many other owners try to imitate George, but they will never be him. Yes, there were ups and downs, but that just shows me that George was a human being, who wore his heart on his sleeve. Players should kiss his feet for helping push their salaries, and other owners should kiss his ass for supporting them w/ revenue sharing and the sell outs they got when the Yankees came to town.

Every baseball fan outside of NYC, and half of them in NYC, hated the guy, but wished he owned their team. This guy took a couple hundred grand investment in the Yankees and turned it into a billion dollar empire.

RIP Jerry Hoffberger. BTW the Yankees developed their consistent winners of the 90s while Steinbrenner was suspended. Steinbrenner did develop a great team from '76 through '78, and since he died today perhaps today this is what we ought to remember. Signing Reggie Jax was the key move. RIP to George S.

Did Steve Jobs invent the I-Phone? No, he signed the checks for the people that did. Stick Michael was responsible for laying the foundation for those late 90's teams, but it was George that gave him the keys to the store for the 2 years he was banned.

Faye Vincent was on WFAN today talking about the "Lifetime Ban". He basically said the Spira thing was a minor infraction, and he told George a 2 year ban was in order. Steinbrenner asked for the lifetime ban because he was burnt out from baseball and wanted to walk away (how many have been asked to be banned from XPT). As he did so many times, the Boss changed his mind, and was reinstated after the originally proposed 2 years.

Creating and building the YES network created the cash flow to ensure the new Yankee dynasty and I surmise that Steinbrenner was a major player.

Well at least he died before the end of the year and the government could legally steal about $300 million from his heirs.
