One big ice cube melted into a jigger of decent Scotch makes for a great drink. You pour the drink and rush in a little too soon and get sort of a burn and a shudder. So you sit the glass down and sort of get over it... By the time you are ready for another tug, enough of the ice has melted to make it just right.
Single malts should not be savored over ice, though, nor should good bourbon.
