Mike Marcum and the Time Machine

They had this Offutt guy on Coast to Coast AM last night and he added a few details.

1. Not only did Markum, with some help from some friends of his, steal six transformers from St. Joseph Power and Light but they did it in broad daylight and had to make two trips because they did not have enough room for all the transformers.

2. Offutt said he talked to some guy in Cincinnati who lived in the same apartment complex as Marcum after Marcum left Missouri and the guy said Marcum described an IPhone to him in perfect detail back in the late 1990s, way before they were on the drawing board.

No one knows where Marcum is now. I seriously doubt the time machine stuff but there is something oddly admirable about someone who builds a Jacobs Ladder out of boredom and manages to steal six transformers from a utility company.

I bet he's a ham !

I'll bet he tried to build and/or operate his "time machine" out in the middle of no where and cooked himself from the inside out and left a large fatty scortch mark behind.

Scortch = burnt ?

Johnny Red is gross. At LEAST go for Black...or go all out and get Blue.

Bleh! I imagine shoe polish through cheese cloth is about the same flavor as scotch. The after taste can't be any worse.

I don't think charin has mentioned sterno. But I remember a story about a guy he drank with who would mix in lysol or some other cleaner.

Never did shoe polish or Sterno, or know anyone who did. Cheap booze is plentiful.

I remember in one of the little red light district bars in Panama an MP and I drained a gallon of Johnny Walker Black over the bar. I really liked Scotch, but didn't often spend the money for the good stuff, Dewar's IIRC was good. I like it in a medium glass with one large ice cube.

In Okinawa, my best friend who grew up right across the street from me rented from a bar owner and paid his rent in Johnny Walker he bought on base. Primo stuff of them. I drank Suntory.

Never did develop a liking for Gin. Yech.

One big ice cube melted into a jigger of decent Scotch makes for a great drink. You pour the drink and rush in a little too soon and get sort of a burn and a shudder. So you sit the glass down and sort of get over it... By the time you are ready for another tug, enough of the ice has melted to make it just right.

Single malts should not be savored over ice, though, nor should good bourbon.

Glenfiddich is single malt, while Chivas is blended.

That is usually the best choice.

Knew a guy years ago named Bill that at one point in his drinking career hung out in the Denver version of skid row. He and his drinking buddies lived in a piss-in-the-sink residential hotel and used to drink Sterno after squeezing it through a t-shirt. One day his best friend got his disability check from the military (a fairly large sum from what I can gather) and Bill sees him walking through the hotel lobby carry several cases of Sterno. Dude was dead the next day.
You can polish a junkie, but he's still a junkie.
