The sudden hype is from the perfect storm that's brewing: 1) USA, historically also-rans in world cup, are pulling out performances like movie plotlines, 2) USA's next game is a rematch with the very team that ended their last world cup run, 3) The teams they'd face after a win over Ghana have not been performing up to the level of the USA team. There's a serious chance USA gets deep into the playoffs - quarterfinals - before they'd hit rough waters. That's rare, they've made quarterfinals only twice since 1930.

This sums up USA's run so far, with the bad officiating and good goals called back: right to left, and still winning.
