'm not actually following the story at all. I just want to guess as to what decade the military outright rebels when whatever sleazy rightwinger who calls himself a democrat gets into office. I'm going to guess by the 2030s the right will become so powerful and disconnected from reality that martial law will seem like the best way to keep the browns in line and to defend their precious bank owned property. 30 years ago people actually questioned the military, now thats barely permitted in media. In 20 more I'll bet the general view will be that the military is infallible and that the dirty politicians are just keeping us down with the laughable "democracy" thing. Then we see how long the real american empire lasts. I'm guessing centuries, a pre-rennasance populace is wonderfully easy to keep in line, they do it themselves.

The fact that we have basically flushed our rights away because of the white haired scums kneejerk reaction to "dope" and their ignorant certainty that cops cant make mistakes and and never fuck with innocent people is worse than an assembly line that incinerates puppies 24/7. There are worse things that happen to dogs every day, cops get away with worse every day. The only decent upside is that the average american sees a dog as important than a person they don't know, and god help that person if they are not lillywhite, so it makes good anti-prohibition PR. PR for the sociopathic, though that makes up the majority of americans I supose.

The last time I heard of anyone "doing something" lately its some rich suburban kids burning down some other richer suburbanite mcmansions. Would you say the average mindset, and group of belifes from your hypothetical "average" person from 1960(and a lot of the important civil rights stuff as from the fifteys as was a lot of other very important social change) isn't more full of racism, sexism, and classism than the average person now? Not a radical, who said bold things like "killing is wrong" and "blacks are people" (which where indeed bold statments) but average joe "damn nigger looked at me funny!" Smith. I think what made the people more "hardcore" is that the opposition was stronger. No doubt many people daaudled behind with poorly written signs, but there where TENS OF THOUSANDS OF THEM and even if they didn't do anything more, it means they where registering the fact that they thought differently. I would not ever bring up "hardcore" actions personally because the need for such actions itself is a register of a more malignant society.

Also, not just race(which is and will always be there) and gender, but also poverty and the general conditions of the country are much better now than they where in the sixties. When they marched against poverty, poverty was a huge widespread systematic thing that trapped huge segments of the population. Everything that they marched against still exists, but its been pushed under the table and really has been alleviated in a nontrivial way.

I honestly fucked up the "century" and while I should have tried harder, I think the usage of dates as centuries that make you do math problems to figure out when something happened is horseshit, and the equivalent of our very american imperial measurement system. Great for the land of classics majors and people who specialize the fuck out of themselves and don't have to care about huge differences, bad for anyone who wants to figure out when something actually happened.
