How exploitative and gratuitous is the title "Towelhead". The girl's background really doesn't have that much to do with the plot. The character could just as easily been have been Mexican, Hawaiian or something else. The word only comes up once or twice when other kids are teasing her but it's just incidental (doesn't mean anything). It would be like if I wrote a script about a black teenager that gets into hijinks and titled it "Spook" or "Porch Monkey".

Sometimes I grow the hairs out, sometimes I shave them. But leg hair, underarm, and most of my 'privates' hair, you don't have to worry about because it was lasered off permanently many years ago. Brows, I wax and the small amount of arm hair i had permanently disappeared after only 1 waxing.

Towelhead, like most slang meant to be culturally insensitive, is offensive depending upon the context. i've never experienced racism twds me or indifference due to being half-'towelhead' aka 1/2 pakistani. maybe that's why it's not an issue to me and don't allude to my background when i post here. the only thing i've noticed is that i can handle spicier foods than anyone and no one was shocked when i got an 'A' in Calc. I haven't seen Towelhead yet, but I'd like to. The part Dino mentioned where she imagines herself in Penthouse and lusting after one of the models, I can definitely relate. thanks. most people guess i'm indian or pakistani. some say persian. in europe, they assume indian/pakistani or French mixed with mid eastern. a few here in l.a. have said mexican, in which i'm not offended, i just think they're nuts. in miami, i always got asked if i was cuban. what trips me out is when indian people try to speak to me in their language. there are so many indian modern languages; how do they know which one i supposedly know?

People don't realize that Pakis and Indians are the same people. They're genetically identical but have different religions. Pakistan was carved out of India in a naive attempt to get crazy muslims to stop blowing shit up.
I heard an Indian author on NPR recently say that he is constantly hassled and threatened by angry Indians because he writes books in English, the language of the devil white colonizers. But the language they speak and want him to write in is mostly Persian, the language of the previous colonizers.
