Looks like the Big Ten will expand their conference by 2-3 teams. They are targeting Big 12 teams in the North. Huskers, Mizz and Touch Down Jesus. It only makes since for ND to join the Big 10. Half of their schedule is against Big 10 teams and I think they would wont to keep those rival games in tact. I'm a Big Ten fan (OSU) and I hope that we add at least NEB, MIZZ and ND.

Rivals Radio said that the Pac 10 wants to add Texas, Texam A&M, Texas Tech and Colorado. The mighty migthy SEC could add teams if this happens. But I don't think they'll go after teams in the South from the ACC like Miami or the Bulldogs. Flordia has the largest alumni in Florida and they don't need Miami to capture more of the State.

This could get crazy before it's all said and done. What's going to happen to the Big East or the ACC? Sounds like there might be 4-5 major conferences.

Not sure what happens to smaller leagues like the WAC or SWAC. Would the Big 12 adds teams like TCU or Colorado St if their Conference gets raided?

tired head....

just read this on the Bucknuts site

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

A decision about expanding the Big Ten might be months away, but e-mail conversations indicate that the University of Texas is an object of the conference's attention. And the school's athletic director isn't making a commitment to stay in the Big 12.
Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee sent an e-mail to Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany on April 20 saying that he had spoken with Texas President William Powers.
"I did speak with Bill Powers at Texas, who would welcome a call to say they have a 'Tech' problem," Gee wrote in an e-mail that was among several obtained by The Dispatch through a public-records request for documents and correspondence related to Big Ten expansion proposals.
Texas Tech is one of Texas' rivals in the Big 12 conference. Ohio State officials declined a Dispatch request to explain the "Tech" problem.
"Public record laws do not require us to provide further clarification on meaning," OSU spokeswoman Amy Murray said in an e-mail. "While a few of the e-mails are cryptic, we aren't obliged to provide additional explanation."
Although speculation about the Big Ten's interest in Texas has been widespread in the 5 1/2 months since the conference announced it would consider expansion, the e-mail is rare evidence of communication between the school and a high-ranking Big Ten representative.
Texas and Texas Tech are two of three state-sponsored schools from Texas in the Big 12. The other is Texas A&M.
Texas and Texas A&M are members of the Association of American Universities, a prestigious alliance of research-minded universities. Texas Tech is not. The Big Ten has made it clear that AAU membership is important for prospective members, with Notre Dame an exception because of its excellent academic reputation.
Although Texas Tech has had athletic success in recent years, it is considered a notch below Texas and Texas A&M athletically. After last season, Texas Tech endured an ugly firing of successful football coach Mike Leach amid allegations that he mistreated players.
Don Hale, Texas' vice president for public affairs, said he did not think the three Texas schools had a legal commitment to be in the same conference. But he said the Texas Legislature may apply pressure for that to happen.
"I think it's a political issue," he said today. "Because they're state institutions, I think the concern is that one can't move without the others."
Shortly after Hale's comment, Rivals.com reported that multiple sources indicated that the Pacific-10 is prepared to invite Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado to join its league.
Gee's initial e-mail to Delany on April 19 said that he is "of the mind that we control our destiny at the moment, but the window will soon close on us. Agility and swiftness of foot is our friend."
That e-mail was a day after Delany addressed the Association of American Universities meetings in Washington, D.C. Expansion was expected to have been on the agenda.
In the same e-mail, Gee commended Delany on his "brilliant presentation."
Minutes after Gee sent the e-mail, Delany replied with a thank-you note.
"We are fast-tracking it but need to know the $ and observe contracts," Delany wrote. "Also need to make sure we leverage this to increase chances of hr additions. Finally double chess # of moving parts including not harming brand as we executy."
In baseball, HR means home run. In the Big Ten, the addition of Texas would certainly qualify. The Longhorns have the only college athletic program that earns more revenue than Ohio State. Texas' revenue for the 2008-2009 school year was $138.4 million, nearly $20 million more than Ohio State.
The Longhorns have elite football and basketball programs, and Texas is considered a top-tier academic institution.
For Texas A&M, the allure of the Big Ten would be largely financial. The Big Ten Network has become a cash cow for member teams. Four years ago, Texas A&M's athletic programs were in such dire financial shape that the university loaned it $16 million.
Texas Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds did not douse speculation that the Longhorns could be leaving their conference when he spoke Wednesday at the Big 12 conference meetings in Kansas City.
Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe opened the meeting with a plea for the league members to stay together. But Dodds, whose school also could be a target for the Southeastern and Pacific-10 conferences, would not commit to that.
"You've known me for very long; I am not hanging back," Dodds said, according to the Associated Press. "I'm not waiting to see what other people are going to do. I'm going to know what our options are, so that's not going to change. My hope is that the Big 12 survives and you and I retire knowing it's a great conference. It's been very viable, and if it stays in place, it will continue to be very viable."
Dodds said Texas didn't start the talk about its possible departure from the Big 12.
"If we need to finish it, we'll finish it," he said. "We're going to be a player in whatever happens

I'm a Kansas State alum and I will go supernova if this happens. Big 12 commissioner Don Beebe is the stupidest sack of shit on planet Earth if this happens while he has sat around with his thumbs up his ass for the last two or three years. I will also be rooting for meteors to strike the towns of Columbia, Missouri, Lincoln, Nebraska, Austin, Texas and any town with a current Big Ten school located in it.

If this all shakes down the absolute best I can hope for is to be drug into the Mountain West conference with the University of Kansas. Maybe with the break up of the Big 12 and subsequent annihilation of the football part of the Big East, after the Big 10, SEC, and ACC pick its bones in a football arms race to get to 16 teams in their conferences, the MWC could take one of those two conferences BCS spot. It would also be a distinct possibility we could end up in fucking Conference USA or someplace worse. It will all be a matter of finding out if my football team is fucked or completely fucked.

It looks like Texas is playing the Pac-10 and Big Ten against each other. Smart move. Texas is the prize, not Nebraska, Mizzou or even Notre Dame. The population is moving south and they are taking their TV sets with them.

Texas has to take TA&M with them, by law of the Texas Legislature.

And depending on the governor who knows who else. Want to know how Baylor got into the Big 12? Find out where the lieutenant governor of Texas in 1995 got his law degree.

Yep, the Big 12 is about to Phlog right before my very eyes. Unfortunately it looks like there is not going to be any for Kansas State to escape the anal labratory. Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech will all jump to the Pac 10 by Saturday afternoon at the latest. Missouri will be staggering around in circles with Jim Delaney's knife in their back and everyone else will go fetal and pray the Big East strikes before the SEC or ACC does.

I see one of two scenarios. Either the Big East moves fast and invites at least Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State (Missouri might bump Iowa State out of the picture now but if Notre Dame decides to stay independent the Big Ten might come back to Missouri) to head off being picked apart by the ACC, SEC and Big Ten or the Big East gets shredded to ribbons by those conferences before it can invite anyone and all the former Big 12 teams (except Baylor who I think is pretty much SOL no matter what) end up in the Mountain West who will then also add Boise State and immediately petition the NCAA for one of the two BCS automatic bids that would be up in the air after the entrails of the Big 12 and Big East have been swept away. Nightmare scenario is if the latter occurs and the NCAA decides that four automatic BCS bids are plenty.

Bornyo, what would you think about Clemson in the SEC? i know the SEC is not going to just sit around and let the Big Ten and Pac 10 steal their thunder. If those conferences go to 16 teams the SEC will be next. I figure their first targets will be the southern ACC schools-Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and Miami. I know Florida has a lot of stroke in the SEC and maybe able to block at least one of the other Florida schools from entrance but if I've learned one thing in the past couple of months it is to never underestimate the greed of a university.

From a football standpoint Clemson is a good fit in the SEC. From every other aspect, it's a bad idea. The ACC challenges us in basketball, soccer and baseball. Their academic standards are much higher than the SEC's and even though several of the SEC schools are no slouches academically, I like the company of the likes of UNC, Duke, Wake, BC and Ga. Tech over an Auburn, Mississippi State or LSU.

If we go, so be it. I'll get the opportunity to laugh my ass off at my perennially bottom dwelling Gamecock neighbors, who claim Clemson would fare no better in the SEC than they have.

Long story short, I'm against it, but Swofford hasn't called me from the Conference offices yet to ask my opinion so I guess it's out of my hands.

IT IS ALIVE!!!!

Thank God, now maybe with just 10 teams we can get rid of all that north-south crap and play every team. Although this is going to screw up the schedules for years to come.

I'm no expert, but I think I read that you need 12 teams to have a Championship game. Not having one leaves a lot of $$ on the table. What 2 schools you think they'll try to get as replacements?

Revenue from Conference Championship Games are overrated just ask the ACC, the tv deal they just cut was for 10 schools. They'll probably do what the Big East does and schedule match-ups at the end of the season that have a chance to be defacto Championship Games.

For now no expansion, no championship game ( Jerry Jones). To tell you how fucking emasculated the northern schools and the south's red headed stepchild Baylor are they volunteered to give their portion of the penalties Nebraska and Colorado are going to pay into the conference ($10 million each, so $2 million to each remaining university) over to Texas, OU, and A&M. This conference ain't lasting past the next TV contract. Eventually OU or A&M are going to have to kick Texas in the balls if they ever want to matter. The only other way to break the Texas power hold in this conference is to have the NCAA come knocking on their door and USC them.

That's pretty unlikely with Mack Brown at the helm. I'm no fan of the school but he is a class act.

He's going to retire in two or three years though. Who knows what Muschamp will be like. I personally hope he is Lane Kiffin reincarnated.

I hope they keep it at 10 teams for now. More money and we'll be able to play every team every year.

Looks like Oregon is going to be in Pac-12 North with Beavers, 2 Washington schools (uggh), Colorado and Utah. That's gonna hurt their So-Cal recruiting...
