I have used both "normal" straight razors and the type that you insert the blade into. I think the kind with the disposable blades is better. Also you're less likely to permanently fuck it up. My antique straight razor fell on my bathroom floor after bouncing off the edge of the sink and now has a nick in the blade.
I haven't used that style in a couple of years and right now I buy cheap disposables.
While there is something satisfying about a close shave I find it not worth the bother.
I pretty much shave with a blade twice a week at most and otherwise use an electric beard trimmer to tame my stubble.
My facial hair constantly changes, right now I just have big side burns but I've been pondering rocking a "Lemmy" for a while.
My advice with straight razors is to follow your barber's lead. I think the "fake" type are easier to maintain than the real ones and have a sharper edge.
