smilingarab is wrong on this, in the sense that it's only true some of the time. I think I'm older than most here and have seen more couples breakup. Certainly on long term relationships (20+ years) that kind of comment is usually never forgiven. That might work in high school but after that it's generally unacceptable and something you can never repair.




Jrv is right, people do get touchy when there old and comfortable and have nothing better to do than hate someone for a dumb offhand comment. I probably wouldn't have made that comment on a forum to someone I didn't know. If it was one of my buds though I probably would have, mind you we are all in our mid to early 20's so it's not that big of a deal. Mind you if one of my friends was dating someone for a really long time and the breakup was mutual and my friend still had feelings for her I wouldn't say that though. The person your saying it to could also take it as an insult to his taste in women. Personally I think people exercise to much offence over stupid things.
