On last night’s American Idol finale, Crystal Bowersox sang “You Oughta Know” with Canadian singer Alanis Morissette. The original lyric to one part goes “Is she perverted like me? Would she go down on you in a theater?” Instead of singing it properly, they family-friendlied it to “Would she go down with you to the theater?”

C’mon, American Idol, don’t do that! This is not the 1960’s. In September 1967, producers of The Ed Sullivan Show didn’t want The Doors to sing “girl we couldn’t get much higher” on the show during the band’s performance of Light My Fire. Instead, they wanted Jim Morrison to sing “girl we couldn’t get much better.” The group said they would comply but sang the song in its original form on live tv. Ed Sullivan was pissed.

Someone please light a fire underneath American Idol. The stage will do. That would be much better.
