Mike Francesa of WFAN has gotten me to take a closer look at the actor John Cazale. I believe he recently screened Cazale's HBO bio-doc "I Knew It Was You".

Though always a supporting character, it seems that his career consisted five feature films in the 70s. Godfathers I & II, The Deer Hunter, Dog Day Afternoon and The Conversation. Oddly ALL FIVE were nominated for "Best Picture" Oscars and all but "Dog Day" are in the LoC's National Film Registry.

He was dying of cancer during shooting of "The Deer Hunter".

I loved him in "Dog Day".

If he had lived, there is a good chance he and fiancee Meryl Streep could have made very talented albeit very ugly children.
