Oil companies are charged heavily to fund gov't preparedness. The spill "got out of hand" because greenie gov bureaucrats douchebags were incompetent at their jobs. They failed to make sure that enough boom was in the area to allow for the spill to be corraled and burned off. Instead they were doing things like crystal meth, looking at porn and giving BP inspection waivers/safety awards. After the spill, most of their time has been spent pointing fingers at people in the private sector. Typical bureaucrats.
