I've long had the opinion that we need to allow drilling, but we need to make the oil companies use some of the enormous profits for ecological stuff. Of course, that would include safety and spill preparedness, along with big chunks of funding for national parks and forests, wildlife preserves, etc. Mankind is not going to let that oil sit there forever.

We need to nuke the well shut. Russians have done this a couple times. It is a viable option.

Blame? Plenty to go around. Bush appointees are still around, allowing self-regulation. I knew there would be a time gap to undo this infiltration of right wing C students. Obama sure hasn't been aggressive about it, though. Somebody sure dropped the ball, with the new team not looking at something this big. And, the response has been very lame.

War rages on, DADT is still in effect, Gitmo is still there, the rich are still getting richer while the poor are still starving, and the middle class is disappearing. Health care reform was a watered down joke. Obama needs to push hard for progressive changes, and start taking decisive action. He needs to start filling positions with competent people. Enough of being cozy with corporations and Republicans, he needs to do what is correct to move us forward.

I say nuke 'er shut, put strict safety scrutiny on drilling (and nuclear power) and charge a hefty lease fee.
