It's not so much flag waving that turns my stomach as it is how Hollywood melodramatices everything.

Like, at the end of Private Ryan, I remember Hanks with his pistol shooting at the tank about to run him over and it blowing up. Then they switch to the camera to a jet that just flew in and happened to blow it up right while Hanks shot that pistol. Only in Hollywood do you get such split moment dramatic coincidences. Just makes me roll my eyes. Ruins the whole suspense of disbelief for me.
