I was going through Showtime On Demand trying to find a movie to watch and found this movie Girlfriend Experience starring Sasha Grey. Showtime's description of the movie is: Quote:
A high-class call girl offers wealthy clients a girlfriend experience during the months before the 2008 Presidential election in this independent drama.
I wasn't about to waste 1 hour and 17 minutes of my life on what I'm sure is a trainwreck of a movie, so is there any brave soul here who did and would like to give a review?

Funny you should ask. It is playing right now as I write this. Bad acting, phoney plastic dialogue, directing that screams "Look how artsy fartsy I am" while shooting scenes with the characters in the foreground out of focus and the light in the distant background in focus or from a distant table in a restaurant with the water glass on another table in the frame blocking your view (in a very artsy way of course). Thankfully, Sasha Grey's actual dialogue is kept to a bare bones minimum, she is rarely lighted properly, and almost never in focus or in frame. Sadly she seems to be in almost every scene. You just need to ask youself if you are the kind of person who likes movies where the main character (who is in almost every scene), speaks phoney dialogue without any visible emotion in a monotone voice, while out of focus, with poor lighting and often out of frame or blocked from view by props. Many critics liked it.

oh no thats not bad acting thats good acting thats how you talk after youve been a whore for a while "hey hows it goin" sounds exactly the same as "wow the house is on fire" inflection and emotion are only used for people who short you or write you bad reviews Quote:

I had recorded GFE on my DVR and happened to watch it last night. The movie was very slow and in a lot of ways disjointed. You could tell a lot of the movie was improv and I think that was probably a bad decision by the director. Sasha just doesn't have the acting chops to be real and spontaneous. She did have some very good moments in the movie but not enough to call it a good performance.
The side story of the boyfriend going to Vegas and flying out there with a few friends was pointless. I thought the boyfriend's performance was even worse than Sasha's. You could see him ACTING in every scene. He never seemed natural.
I'm curious if her being monotone through much of the movie was a conscious decision by the director or if she was just flat. It didn't work when Sasha was arguing with her boyfriend that's for sure. When Sasha was in escort mode and meeting with clients her performance was spot on. She also had good moments when she described being humiliated by a sleazy client looking for a freebie for press and when being disappointed in another client.
I don't think I'd recommend the movie to the average person. But I didn't hate it.
All and all, I'd rather watch her fuck than act.

In general directors don't try to get non-actors to emote, that's probably why the scenes of her fighting didn't work. Someone lent me this to watch but I haven't seen it yet.

Entourage has had several pornstars on previous episodes (none in recurring roles). Somebody on that series is a big porn fan. It wouldn't surprise me if they're lurking on XPT reading this thread right now...
