Hi, Sorry to be over a year late responding to this. But I have covered the adult industry for Rolling Stone, LA Times, Las Vegas Weekly and The Daily Beast. My primary connection to adult is the AEE convention and AVN Awards in Vegas, where I am based. I don’t watch movies, mainstream or porn. That is why I have never seen an adult film yet write about the industry frequently. After more than a decade at the convention reporting annually, I feel qualified. People get what is in the films and so it is a unique industry where I don’t really need to see the films to write about the people, practices and business.
My comment on Darrah's blog was actually referring to Richard Abowitz's statements above. I just don't agree that one is truly qualified to write about the adult industry if they have never seen a XXX movie. It would be desirable for a porn journalist to view as many pornographic movies as possible. I think this is just common sense and it's absurd to suggest otherwise.
I always assumed that Darrah did watch porn. I know she is not an "industry insider" but I certainly thought she watched adult movies. If this is the thing she "has in common" with Richard Abowitz, I am very disappointed. The title of her blog entry was a little unclear to me.
