The interesting thing about gold is that the price has been driven up largely not because it is the safe haven from currency volatility, but simply because there may not be any more gold to be found. There hasn't been a significant gold find in years even though mining companies have been spending money out the ass trying to find new veins. There is a growing consensus that all the gold that ever will be mined has already been mined. That alone will keep gold prices up indefinitely.
