Does anybody still watch T.V.?

Recently, I was stuck in a bar watching some lame entertainment show about various network sitcoms, dramas, late night wars, etc. and I realized that I didn't recognize any of the topics they were discussing.
Are there any good shows left on network TV?
I started watching "Mad Men", and thought it was great, but I watched it on Apple TV, not on network TV. I also LOVE "30 Rock", but I also watch it on Apple TV, not on network TV. I like several shows on pay cable channels that I record to my DVR: "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares"(BBC), "Real Time"(HBO), "Entourage" (HBO), but I don't know a single network TV series currently running.
Does anybody still watch network TV? Do you have any favorite shows or do you watch only out of habit? Is there anything currently playing on network TV that is worth putting up with commercials to see?

Only shows I really watch on network TV are The Office and 30 Rock on NBC, and the Fox Sunday night line up of animation.

I like Ramsey and a few others you listed. As far as network goes as close as I get is Sheens syndicated show. I like Charlie.

I haven't had any kind of TV in years. The set is basically just a monitor for my DVD player and video games. Being home only two or three evenings a week kinda makes have any type of TV, free or cable, kind of a waste.

Gordon J. Ramsay, OBE is my role model. He has been since before I ever even knew he existed (or should I say his style) and it has nothing to do with his cooking.
I would suggest watching "Boiling Point" a British documentary about his attempt to obtain three Michelin stars, or "The F word" or early BBC productions of "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares" (before he came to the US) over the current "Hell's Kitchen" series, but they're all good to me.

It's not so much that I watch TV. I leave it on a lot of the time for background noise that isn't distracting.
I find myself working on papers that involve focus to the point that I can't play music that I enjoy so I just leave the TV on.
I do not get cable. In Toronto I can pick up 10 or so stations with the television alone. That is plenty.
A few days ago I was writing code while "watching" a session of parliament. That sort of TV viewing is all I do.

Good eats is decent, Alton is brilliant. And I like Bourdain too. Anthony is fucken awesome and the show is just so cool to kick back and take in. He really does cover the culture and cuisine of so many countrys with a unique perspective while dropping many many stoner and porn refs.

DVR is the only way to go. Lost, Mad Men, Dexter, Office, Weeds, Burn Notice.

This was a great fucking tip. Not quite as intense as classic HBO series like Oz and the Soprano's, but close. And, this series has got more comedy in it than those shows ever had.
They've been re-running series 1 and 2 leading up to the premiere of season 3. It's all I been watching on TV since Guapo posted it. Guapo, if you've got more shows, Please!!

Sitting down to "The Pacific" now on DVR.
After my GrandDad died I got a Jap flag to hang up in my room. He had kept it in his closet along with a box of medals and several other "souvenirs" (like a pack of cigarettes taken off a dead Japanese soldier--I smoked one once, years later, and was disappointed how they just seemed like regular stale cigarettes). I guess nobody else wanted that junk and the rest of the family thought a pre-teen boy might appreciate it even if he didn't understand what it meant. I pinned the medals on the cloth flag and hung it over my bed with his framed Marine Corp honorable discharge certificate and a picture of General D. MacArthur he kept in the hall although nobody knew why; and some were secretly very happy to be rid of.
I was always a bit disappointed that he was in the Pacific rather than Europe--where Hollywood and the rest of the American public consciousness seemed to be and where everybody thought about when they thought of WWII. I have thought a million times why that is the way it was/is.

No, it came about because I use Apple TV or Netflix over my regular cable TV service about 90% of the time. If I find something I like on TV, the first thing I do is look to see if it is available on AppleTV, netflix, or DVD. If it isn't available anywhere else, I'll DVR it on cable as a last resort. Other than things like the Oscars or the Superbowl, regular CABLE TV is passe.

Brandon, I heard she is French-Canadian. If you ever decide to change your business model and film attractive women for a change, look her up, no?

I probably watch too much TV. At least it's DVR'd so I can get everything I need to get done before gelling out in front of the tube. That's what I tell myself, speaking of defense mechanisms:
"Justified" on FX was OK--- not spectacular, but I'll watch the next episode.

TV its so 1999
But coupled with a DVR, still more efficient (no streaming issues).
Sun: 60 Minutes, Fox "Animation Block" (though I often hate myself for it). And now, BREAKING BAD! Check out the Adult Swim sched, and most likely, call it a night. Mon: No Reservations, House, 24, Damages, Daily Show/Colbert ("DS/C"). Tue: DS/C (on Com HD, it's 3 hours ahead of time), Lost, Southland (last weeks ep "U-Boat" was best ever), Justified. Wed: the dead zone...there's nothing...a good night to prepare shopping lists and catch up on anything missed...DS/C at some point...maybe watch a movie that I purchased or recorded. Thu: Community/Parks & Recreation/The Office/30 Rock and then, was Archer, but now, nothing...DS/C. Fri: set the DVR for Kitchen Nightmares and Caprica. Sat: nothing.

I'm pretty much on the Gunker schedule. Some oh his I can pass on. I've watched Lost 4 seasons and I really don't give a shit this season. A pox on all their houses.
Big Love and Weeds are both great. I love how both are completely different shows from when they started.
24, but I'm glad to see it coming to an end. The writing has gotten a tad sloppy.
Modern Family is fucking fantastic. I know the geeky dad is supposed to be the breakaway character, but I love the whole ensemble. I love my homos flaming and Cameron fits that bill. And Al Bundy's bride...daddy loves Latin cleavage.
Sons of Anarchy works for me. I love shows that start a storyline, but don't always give the storyline a payoff. Loose ends are never all tied up in real life. Plus there's a ton of undercurrent stuff that just smolders, then suddenly pops up to jab you in the stomach. Great acting, great writing.
I'm there for Justified. The Shield guy and the Girl Next Door (jondra?) guy are a great Cane and Abel combination. To have one of the two major characters take a gut shot in the first ep, well, it can only be a monkey driven rocket ride from there.
Plus there are some great docs on the "learning" type channels. Altho, I'm starting to get concerned that the History Channel is kind of turning into MTV? Remember when they used to show these things called "music videos"? And now they don't. HC seems to be going in the same direction. What does Ax Men have to do with history? Show me another fucking doc on how Washington and Jefferson buggered young apprentice Masons.
And Breaking Bad. Best show on tv. The characters are really out of the box. Cranston is the perfect combination of utter desperation, utter despair, but with a mix of certainty that this will all work out in the end. Somehow. But it won't. It just can't. I agree the brother in law will be the epicenter of how it all comes crashing down. But who knows? Walt just may pull it off. Haven't seen ep 3 yet, so I'm really hoping he doesn't actually get his head cracked with an ax handle.
I think the bigger question is does anyone go to the movies anymore? I think the last movie I saw was Book of Eli, mostly because a bunch of us went to it at the dollar theater. TV's where it's at right now. Really groundbreaking stuff (OK, I know there's more shit than good, but the good is really great), great writing, great characters, epic acting. And I can sit on my couch with my feet propped up, a frosty homebrew in one hand, my new Stewie pipe in the other. What's not to like?

Glad to see all the love for Breaking Bad. Now, to clarify the end of ep 2 for Barry...[SPOILERS] The bald "cleaner*" guy has staked out the house at the behest of the attorney who wanted the estranged wife watched. He know the very-valuable asset Walt is in the house as Walt interrupted his bugging of same house. He observes the twin Mexican cartel assassins enter the house (he must know this from their boots (interestingly enough, in this week's "Southland", cartel assassins were also identified by their boots...cowboys, with steel toes)). He calls the attorney (assumed, off camera) who then calls the character played by Giancarlo Esposito who is some kind of loud factory. Then, the two assassins who are politely waiting for Walt to finish their shower receive a phone call. The caller ID says "Pollos" which, of course, is Giancarlo's front restaurant, last seen offering Walt $3,000,000 to manufacture again. When Walt steps out of the shower, the assassins are gone, their revenge prerogative trumped by Walt's potential value to the higher ups in the drug trade. All of this happened in about 5+ minutes, with very little words spoken... *-I call him this, because in Season 2, ep 13, he "cleaned" up the apartment where the girl O'D'd (with some help from Walt).

I watched it last night. Was right on the edge of my seat for the final minutes. I had to rewatch it, because I thought it was Walt's phone that rang. So, the twins steal peasant clothes, but once the reach Los Estados Unitos, the go buy new shiny pimp suits. Love it. Best show on tv. Quote:
