I've been on freecycle as a donor. I quit it in short order. I don't know what part of "available on weekends, between 8-5, you will have to load and haul" is not clear. Then there were the pleas for "free above ground pools, to be delivered and set up, for physical therapy for my 34 yr old son home on disability". Fuck freecycle, and fuck human nature- it's a broken experiment.

I have heard of independent minded individuals who found, drove their own truck, loaded and used old sliding glass door panels to construct greenhouses and the like. It could work but it would have to be closed to the general public, or charge for registration.

bornyo you're way more generous that i could ever be. only good way to get rid of stuff is make people think they're stealing it. my friend once put out a fridge with a sign "FREE" on it and it sat for a week, then wind blew the sign off and the fridge disappeared during the night. coincidence?

no doubt re: human nature. like give someone a free laptop or printer and watch them proceed with no shame whatsoever in calling you up for the next decade whenever they or their kids fucked it up. hell, i gave someone an old car once and only ever regretted it.

a lot of tech companies now landfill old equipment rather than give it away to employees- in Toshiba's case they saw their tech support lines turning into a circus and costing them a fortune with all the people complaining about problems on their free gear.
