Whether you live here, have lived here, or have just come up for the weekend to take advatantage of our lower drinking age and higher prices. We have some good fucking beer.

Fin du Monde is sold throughout the Phoenix metro area, strangely enough given that it's brewed in the Northermost area of Quebec, and I've got to say it's delicious. Kind of a trappist style beer with what I swear is a whisper of maple syrupy flavor.

Fin du Monde came out the same time as Maudite. They were high powered malt liquors that tasted like cough syrup. The big bottles made up for it though.

I've always been a fan of Upper Canada Lager. They're still considered a microbrew, but they've gained a lot of recognition and have remained solid since the late 80's.

The last one I had was Mill St. Brewery's 2009 batch of barley wine. Not technically a beer but it was good.

This is the stuff.

I was wearing a t-shirt earlier advertising La Fin Du Monde.

EDIT: @charin: Sorry to disappoint but sobriety disagreed with me.

This shit was nasty as hell, but it came in little stubby bottles, and they were a great party novelty. If you wanted to break a bottle over your head for laughs and didn't want to injure yourself, you'd reach for a thin-glassed Grizzly.

I've seen that on the shelves, but have never been so bold. Conq, do you remember Niagara Trapper, back around '89? We used to get it in mix 'n match sixers, but I seem to be the only person who remembers it. There was a cartoon of a guy in a canoe going over some rapids on the label.

In 1989 I was 7 years old. I don't remember it.

EDIT: if the stores near you still have the barley wine give it a shot. I have bought it a few times and find it way better served at room temperature.

I remember picking a chick up in high school for a first date. Her Dad invited me in for a beer to discuss my intentions with his 'princess'. Over a fucking Schooner.

The beer was surprisingly better than the head I got later that night

I am a fan, though the ones I've had don't remind me of the trappist stuff that much. Guess I've been lucky.

Poor old KLB . They really ran that fucker into the ground.
I worked at 2 places that featured a ton of micros from Canada and watched their demise. This is a beautiful summer beer, chuck a piece of orange in there...

I do not dig Steamwhistle at all. This is a real nice bitter. We served it as a Real Ale, where you gotta let the keg sit and settle...

They do a real nice apricot beer that we started to carry after KLB went under . If you find it a little sweet , 50/50 it with Creemore Springs lager. That drink is my one little contibution to the Ottawa pub community..

Can't stand this old fave, but it is kinda like Pabst in the states: a crappy beer favoured by really old guys, therefore adopted by hipsters....

I haven't had it in YEARS, but I used to type papers in for a pizza and six of Molson Canadian. At the time, it wasn't that easy to get in Pennsylvania they usually only had Molson Golden. But, I preferred like Molson Golden on tap.

Plus, it made the morons that had me type their stupid papers work for it.

FEH!

Canada is twenty years behind America in brewing good beer!

It's too cold to produce hops:

Hop producing country Output in tonnes;
Germany 34,438
USA 23,494
China 10,576
Czech Republic 7,831
Poland 3,414
Slovenia 2,539
United Kingdom 1,693
Spain 1,537
Ukraine 1,474
France 1,372
New Zealand 900

America's West Coast alone has more high-rated beers than Canada:

Gunker is right: fruity beers are gay. (And most of them taste like shyte anyway.)

Budweiser is brewed with rice. That can't be beer.

The only fruity beer I like is Hoegarden. I've not much use for it as it is almost $14 a six pack. Can't remember what real American Budweiser is like, but the Bud brewed here by Labatt is passable.

They've been brewing Stroh's up in Guelph for years. I used to enjoy the 15 pack of cans, but its become quite skunky.

As far as Yankee beer, we can only get that in the liquor stores, and they only seem to import the bottom of the barrel.

No shit.

I wish I knew why that was. I want some of the beers I grew up with from PA. Specifically Vivtory Stormking. But Ontario thinks I would prefer shit like Coors Light with Lime in the import section.

Is Stormking the dark beer that tastes like anise? I don't like black licorice so that beer ended up being given away. I do love Victory's Golden Monkey though. Victory's Lager is a waste of money...Yuengling is way better for like 15 bucks less per case.

Yuengling port and Yuengling Black & Tan are both nice although I prefer the Lager. Yuengling is a really good beer considering the reasonable price.

To put beer prices here in perspective Fiend, in PA i could get a 6 pack of Yuengling pint cans for a little less than 5 bucks.

The cheapest 6 pack here of any kind of beer in 12oz bottles/cans is between 7-8.

I realize the taxes are high to pay for health care but that doesn't stop me from feeling ripped off.

12 pack cans of yuengling Lager at the corner bar is $12.50 while a case of cans is $19.00 at the distributor. Back in the day my friends and I would load up into a buddy's van and head over to NJ and stock up in bulk on beer and hard liquor from Roger Wilco's. You were looking at a 3 - 5 dollar difference per case or bottle(Fifth) between PA and NJ prices and the selection at Roger Wilco's was insane compared to PA State stores. We would use the ride over as time to bullshit and smoke herb. It was a blast. Roger Wilco's on a sunday morning when PA's Blue laws were still in full force was a trip.....it was like waiting for concert tickets overnight. So many people from PA that there was no parking so there would be a line of cars driving in circles around the store.

For us, back in the day used to mean putting five bucks in the car, driving to Buffalo and filling the trunk with $8 cases of beer and $4 40oz of liquor. Got caught (underage at the time) and only wound up with a $20 fine. Got to keep the booze too.

Tonight's lineup: Snoqualmie Wildcat IPA (22 oz), Orval (11.2 oz), Lompoc Batch 69 Baltic Porter (22 oz), George Gale's Prize Old Ale (9.3 oz).

All recommended except for the last one, which 1) has a cork in it, requiring corkscrew, and 2) is a flat 9% ABV, so it tastes closer to whiskey than beer.
