I think that radio broadcast of the war to troops during the Korean War was what inspired the name.

I recall from the Ken Burns mini-series that George Plimpton said he was in the military as well, playing bridge with Brits.

My dad used it as inspiration/motivation. The next time he was assigned to interrogate drunk Russians seized in the US Zone of Occupation he decided that they were ALL Giants fans.
