Hey, this is California, where you can be ordered to pay alimony even when not married. Some Family Court judges really do care about the "child's best interests" part and would love to do anything to avoid sending the kid to Janine or Jesse, if Bullock's lawyers found a way to do it.

Assuming there is no case law against it her odds are very poor of course. But if there's any risk of her paying child support - also unlikely but you never know in CA - it's worth spending $150k on a lawyer to see if she gets lucky.

As for Jesse asking for custody: it's all about the money. Jesse will definitely ask for custody to avoid paying child support. Janine will definitely ask for custody in order to get child support. Lefty stays with Janine or skips town depending on whether she gets child support.
