The family of a college student missing in Haiti have ended their nine-day vigil in Florida after the State Department shifted its mission from rescue to recovery.
Brittany Gengel is one of four students from Lynn College in South Florida still missing in the earthquake-devastated island nation. Two of their teachers are also believed buried at the Hotel Montana in Port-Au-Prince.
Leonard and Cherylann Gengel of Rutland, Mass., returned home Friday. Leonard Gengel says the State Department told him 40 Americans remained trapped in the hotel rubble.
Reading from a statement at Logan International Airport, he asked the government to guarantee that every American, dead or alive, in the hotel rubble be accounted for and returned to the U.S. in a dignified way.
