Having visited both Haitis and the Dominican Republic several times, I can say without hesitation that I would take a boatload of Haitian refugees over a luxury resort full of Dominicans any day.
In my experience, Haitians are kinder, warmer, more honest and hardworking than the Dominicans, who are widely regarded as the shitheels of Central America/Caribbean.
The situation (Haiti vs. DR) reminds me of the Jamestown/Plymouth history in the US, the first settlement turned into a horror, the second a history. Bad planning? Poor organization? Bad luck? Maybe all of those and more, but you can't say one group is inherently more 'able' or deserving than the other.
I completely agree, and thank you. Except I do love the Dominican people as well, but there is something "harder" about them. You'll just never know until youre face-to-face with the citizens in their own country, surrounded by their own culture (not you're own) before you'll espouse what they "deserve" or don't.
