Most summers here are hot enough to make VHS tapes suck here. People put them in their car to return in the morning and drop them off after work. Often the cassette just melts and the store doesn't put it out on the racks, but a cassette that doesn't melt still de-magnetizes the tape.

The other thing is that this store looks at the front and back of each DVD as it is returned, and for whatever reason I've never rented bad DVD there (besides Evil Angel, which had a bad replicator for a while).

Getting a VCR is no big deal but it takes room and would almost never get used. When mine broke in January I was lazy and didn't get around to getting another one, and after a while realized I hadn't wanted to use it in months.

And before that the last thing I watched was a tape the plumber made when he ran a camera down my sewer to find a problem. I guess in the end it all really does come down to POOP!
