It's time to replace my Crackberry, and I'm thinking about a Droid. I played with it today and I liked it. There are things that I like about the iPhone, but I can't part with a querty keyboard, ever. Anybody have one? What do you think of it?

I'd take a look at the new Nexus One, if an iPhone's not for you. It has a newer version of Android included and I think there may be a version with a physical keyboard coming.

I'd also have another look at the iPhone.

You must mean you're craving a physical keyboard / keypad on the phone. I know a few people locally who swore they couldn't do without a physical keyboard, but quickly got used to the iPhone's (touch) keyboards. Maybe grab one from a friend, and spend a week with it to get a better feel.

Pinupmutant, you don't want to be an iFag, not to mention being stuck with AT&T's crappy coverage.

I've had the Droid phone for about 6 weeks now and I'm very happy with it. I had a crackberry before I switched out and I feel like I've lost nothing and gained a lot more. The navigation alone is reason to buy the phone. Plus the apps are very good and getting better. Right now the iphone has a lot more apps. However the Android system is being run at all the major carriers while the iphone is just on ATT. So hopefully as this phone and the google phone, Droid Eris, etc, grow in popularity more app's will come.

I know 3 other people that have it now and we all love it.

Also, I have 2 lines on my account but only needed one new phone. So I took the extra LG phone they gave me for free and sold it on ebay for $80. Right now I think they are offering a HTC Droid Eris free with the Motorola Droid. You could probably do the same thing and get $100 for it on Ebay.

If you're looking to buy a phone now, doesn't matter. But soon, end of the year I think - it's been a few months since I checked on the story, Apple's contract with AT&T expires. When you read financial news, it's widely believed Apple will renegotiate for a contract without exclusivity.

Significant in financial news because AT&T hasn't been doing so well earnings-wise. Their only division doing well is their wireless division. And, it's only been doing well because of all the contracts for iPhones that they're selling.

Anyone who owns a smartphone should be murdered.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I should have said keypad. I cannot stand typing on a touch screen. And I only need the basic apps, most of which come from Google anyway (except yelp). I don't like the Nexus One. Droid is supposed to be getting the 2.1 OS soon enough.
