True. But, I was raised by two rapid fans of "the Boys of Summer".
My earliest baseball memories are from 1967 when I saw Tommy Davis [our star player] and Ron Swoboda [my favorite player at the time] play the Reds on a Sunday. I think it was "Photo Day". The Reds shut out my Mets 2-0.
I vividly remember the 1967 AL Pennant race and the Tigers [whom I was rooting for since he was my brother's favorite team] losing to the Angels in the second game of a DH on the last day of the season.
And, I fell in love with my favorite non-Met, Carl Yastremski, in the World Series and came to believe that Bob Gibson was a god.
