What was the first album you ever bought for yourself with your own money?

I bought "Paul's Boutique" by Beastie Boys in 94 @ a Warehouse store. It was a cassette(sp?) tape and no more than 8 dollars, I think.

Back In Black... My brother was being a fucken cunt one day so I tried to take his head off with it. The fat fuck was quicker than I thought and ducked it. It broke a lamp but for some reason my mom decided I had to replace his album rather than her lamp.

First album I bought with my own money [from my Newsday paper route] was "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player" by Elton John at Sam Goody's in 1973.

My first 8-track, also purchased that year, was either Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" [previously owned by my best friend] or a recorded episode of the Flip Wilson show from the Korvette's bargain bin.

Ready for this? When I was a boy, I wanted the record YMCA. And my Dad was like why do you want that? I said, "I like the song" and the poor guy, knowing what it was all about, and me being 100% clueless, because I was like 5, he bought it for me. I rocked that record until it skipped. lol

My first was a double 45 purchase after getting a good report card. I chose "A Taste Of Honey" by Herb Alpert, and Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue"

I am absolutely positive that these were the first two CDs I ever bought. (Bought them both at the same time.)

It was a twofer deal. I never liked Iron Maidens music as much as I liked their posters, though.

I prefer their records with Paul Dianno singing. If you aren't familiar with the first 2 Maiden records check them out.

Both singers styles work for their respective material but I like Dianno better.

The first two Iron Maiden albums are totally underrated gems that get overlooked. Really great stuff (Ides of March, Killer, Remember Tomorrow, Charlotte the Harlot--).

I have to disagree about them being better than the stuff with Dickinson though. He brought out the best in Steve Harris and the whole band after he joined.

Not sure on the Maiden issue. I really like the first two albums. Like Nuge wrote, a lot of underrated material. But DiAnno sucked, when it came to live performances. I have heard a lot of bootleg recordings and I've seen him live with his own band (Battlezone?). Not good.

'Number of the Beast' and 'Live after Death' are two of my all-time favorites, but I can't say I'm too impressed by the other albums on which Dickinson sings. He does have an awesome voice, though.

The first LP I bought was Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'. The first CD was 'Fireball' by Deep Purple. Never bought any cassettes.

Oh, I really liked Iron Maiden, but I loved Eddie the Head posters. My walls were covered with them. Out of them all I have 3 left. The Trooper, Somewhere In Time, and Stranger In A Strange Land. Maybe I will go buy some of the reprints I see on the web, but I don't really have anywhere to hang them anymore. You're right about Paul Dianno being the better singer. I never got to see them live though.

You know the guy who drew Eddie the zombie, Derek Riggs, went crazy?

From what I read he started thinking Eddie was real. He doesn't draw Eddie anymore.

EDIT: Hmmm, that might have been a lie. I can't source it online and very likely read it in a metal zine.

HA! I had that album!! Mine was autographed by the band [my cousin, who is two weeks older than his aunt, my mom, was one of their "MonStars" at the time.]

Never cared for KISS, so I actually gave it away to a girlfriend who loved them.

I'm pretty sure this was the first record I bought with my own money as well.
I had my parents buy me Def Leppard "Hysteria", David Lee Roth "Sky Scrapper" And Scorpion's "Savage Amusement" when I was ten.

I hadn't heard he went crazy. Here is his website. It's pretty minimal and it doesn't have any Eddie (copyright dispute with Maiden) but has a some artwork and quite a few non-maiden album covers.

Hmmm come to think of it the Alice Cooper album was around 1971 so I probably already had Led Zeps first album and maybe some Allman Brothers. 40+ years is a lot of musical memories.
