What was the first album you ever bought for yourself with your own money?
I bought "Paul's Boutique" by Beastie Boys in 94 @ a Warehouse store. It was a cassette(sp?) tape and no more than 8 dollars, I think.

Back In Black... My brother was being a fucken cunt one day so I tried to take his head off with it. The fat fuck was quicker than I thought and ducked it. It broke a lamp but for some reason my mom decided I had to replace his album rather than her lamp.

First album I bought with my own money [from my Newsday paper route] was "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player" by Elton John at Sam Goody's in 1973.
My first 8-track, also purchased that year, was either Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" [previously owned by my best friend] or a recorded episode of the Flip Wilson show from the Korvette's bargain bin.

I still like basically every piece of music I've ever owned. I never had any embarrassing period where I was into crap music.

Not sure on the Maiden issue. I really like the first two albums. Like Nuge wrote, a lot of underrated material. But DiAnno sucked, when it came to live performances. I have heard a lot of bootleg recordings and I've seen him live with his own band (Battlezone?). Not good.
'Number of the Beast' and 'Live after Death' are two of my all-time favorites, but I can't say I'm too impressed by the other albums on which Dickinson sings. He does have an awesome voice, though.
The first LP I bought was Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'. The first CD was 'Fireball' by Deep Purple. Never bought any cassettes.

I prefer their records with Paul Dianno singing. If you aren't familiar with the first 2 Maiden records check them out.
Both singers styles work for their respective material but I like Dianno better.
Oh, I really liked Iron Maiden, but I loved Eddie the Head posters. My walls were covered with them. Out of them all I have 3 left. The Trooper, Somewhere In Time, and Stranger In A Strange Land. Maybe I will go buy some of the reprints I see on the web, but I don't really have anywhere to hang them anymore. You're right about Paul Dianno being the better singer. I never got to see them live though.

You know the guy who drew Eddie the zombie, Derek Riggs, went crazy?
From what I read he started thinking Eddie was real. He doesn't draw Eddie anymore.
EDIT: Hmmm, that might have been a lie. I can't source it online and very likely read it in a metal zine.

I hadn't heard he went crazy. Here is his website. It's pretty minimal and it doesn't have any Eddie (copyright dispute with Maiden) but has a some artwork and quite a few non-maiden album covers.

Bootsy's bass playing on that record is great.

Either it was something really lame or Weird Al.
