This seems so improbable to me - an American girl and her Italian boyfriend hook up one night with a drifter who has a record of breaking and entering...and decide to kill the American girl's British roommate for fun. Amanda Knox is painted as some kind of Lady Macbeth because she owned a vibrator, had premarital sex, and is admittedly a little weird. Her boyfriend is an accomplice because he owned hentai manga. The evidence is the most circumstantial and of circumstantial evidence, and the defense wasn't allowed access to what the prosecution had.

Something is very wrong here. What do all of you think?

She could have had a great career in porn with her looks and a name like "Amanda Knox", that's what I think.

From the little I've seen, she appears to have been a bit a railroaded.

But, I'm biased in that I only believe in the American version of prosecution. I find foreign prosecution methods quite scary.

I highly recommend Douglas Preston's THE MONSTER OF FLORENCE as background to this case. Preston was researching the serial killings that are the subject of this book when he was detained and accused of the crimes (!) by the very same prosecutor in the Knox case, last name Mannini. Mannini looks for ritual Satanism in every case he can find and is currently being prosecuted for misconduct and corruption, and faces one year in prison. It is quite likely that Knox and her Italian ex-boyfriend are innocent, especially since the likely killer has already been convicted.

The Italians have never been known for running a tight ship as far as government is concerned. This is to be expected. She'll be out in 18mos on some kind of Italian version of Iran /Contra.

Problem is that the majority of the Italian public and the victim's family support the verdict. The corruption and buffoonery inherent in the criminal justice system there may make it more likely that she and the boyfriend won't see parole for 8 or 10 years. Knox's meager support seems to be coming only from a senator in her home state. Mannini's corruption issues do not involve this case, at least so far.

Criminal Justice System? What about electing Cicciolina to Parliament? The entire Police force of Sicily being bought and paid for? No one, and I mean no one pays taxes. It is one big hippie fest over there.

The kid will be home in 18 mos as a result of some arms/aid package they will get from the US. Don't sweat it. The kid can further her sexual education in prison while waiting it out. Might even become a world class muff muncher by then. Everybody wins!

The problems south of Rome are VERY different from those in the north.They're like two different nations, and if you have spent time there it is very obvious. This conviction isn't like the kind of stuff you'd see in Sicily.

This case has a lot more to do with anti-American leftist sentiments in the industrial north.

I see your point, but I'd counter that the Italians in Milan and the northwest often out-German the Germans. To an Italian living in a shotgun shack in Puglia, that world might as well be Mars.

I read The Monster of Florence a little over a year ago. When I read that Mignini would be the prosecutor, I thought "These kids are screwed".

Italy as we know it is only about 140 years old. Before that it was a collection of kingdoms, duchy's and the odd city-state. They are still trying to work things out.

RI disagree. Had this happened here, that she'd had seven sexual partners wouldn't have been relevant. Italians are tolerant of extramarital sex but not of premarital sex. Here, it's the other way around.

From what i've read I think the correct decision was made. Amanda Knox told too many different stories. It would have been good if they could have videotaped her police interviews though

It does sound plausible that they may have been high on drugs ( it doesn't sound like they would have done this sane ) and forced Meredith to take part in a sex game and then killed her after she was raped and started screaming

The actual killer was decided to be that drifter - I think if Amanda Knox had have just told the truth about what happened she might have received a much lesser sentence

I just think she showed very odd behaviour not as you'd expect from someone whose roommate and friend was murdered. Also why did she tell so many contradicting stories. Maybe she was under duress with all the questioning but it seemed very weird

The above-mentioned drifter, a petty thief named Rudy Guede, who admitted to being with the victim at the time of her death, said an intruder killed her. He fled the country after the killing. It just doesn't add up.
