I knew a guy that was born in a small town "farmer's" hospital in CNJ in the 1940's. When NJ went to the six points of ID for license renewal, he brought his original handwritten birth cert. and they wouldn't accept it.
My stepdad was born in Brooklyn in the early '30s. His a copy of the handwritten original with an "certificate of authenticity" like stamp pushed into the paper.
BUT his birth certificate only has him as "Baby [last name omitted on XPT]". I have no idea how that is a valid form of ID, but it continues to work for him.
