It's both, but it's also kind of typical. These departments seem to taker advantage of the fact that critical thinking isn't being taught in the secondary schools. Her thinking seems to be like a kid in Grade 1 or 2. Simple repatition of what she's being told, not what she's being taught. It's like the only thing she's being taught is to simply regurgitate back what her favorite professor (or her favorite professor's favorite professor) says. It's sad that when given the advantage of continuing education, the best her parent's money could buy is old, discredited theories that were barely relevant when they were invented in the 70's and 80's. It's like the line in PCU: "You're majoring in Sandskrit? You're majoring in a 5000 year old dead language?".

What will Antiquelens do with her degree? Beyond being a prof at Waterloo, what gig is she being prepared for? Maybe a barista at an edgy local coffee house where she can read her poetry on break to her fellow intellectuals. Or she could take the lead of Lubben and SWCBN, standing up to the peni-ocrasy with her own little non profit foundation.

No matter what, I'm sure she'll be true to her beliefs, especially when it becomes inconvenient in later life. Much to the amusement iof the unwashed.
