Yet, the "felon" thing is an interesting excuse considering how I hear every year they have one of the best recruiting classes.
Going into the season, their only tough games with teams from REAL conferences seemed to be USC and Boston College, and both were to be against new QBs and both under the shadow of the TouchDown Jesus.
At say, 10-2, it seemed that they were in a position to weasel their way into a BCS bowl without even beating a ranked team.
This year they were a bit surprised that Pitt was decent - never would have scheduled them if they suspected it was possible. You think they schedule Syracuse & Connecticut for "Senior Day" because they think they have a chance to lose?
And, to lose to Navy 2 of 3 years after not losing to them since Roger the Dodger?
If they couldn't beat an under-performing USC team at home, when will they?
And, how did they lose to Michigan? Boy do they SUCK!
Sure, it might be hard in 2009 to compete for the national title without felons. I'm not going to argue with that. But, you should be able to beat the dogs of the Big 10 and Big East.
And, a program that isn't capable of beating anyone of note shouldn't have a special BCS deal.
