He lost his house in Florida, despite the extremely cushy bankruptcy laws in that state which permit one to maintain one's residence, in spite of its opulence? His wife has Crohn's Disease--called "rare" in the New York Times, though it's not, and terminal, which it certainly is potentially, but not in the vast majority of cases? I smell a hoax. Al Goldstein is a peckerhead, and I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to hoax even The Paper of Record, much less AVN. Maybe he feels like Andy Kaufman dying of cancer and nobody believes it, but I'm pretty skeptical.
