No, Conundrum, it is not. Why would you think it was?

Do all of the performances seem so realistic to you that you could not believe that anybody could possibly be acting?

"Porn actress" is not an oxymoron it is an understatement.

I think you are both onto something and way off base. First of all, I don't see how marrying an (ex) porn star can be detrimental to your career.

It is my fault for not doing a better job of laying out the dilemma in my invented scenario.

Could you use your imagination and invent a situation (no matter how fantastical) where a fictional person (not yourself) has a job that might suffer (either because of clients, co-workers, or bosses) if they married a woman who has pornographic pictures and movies readily available on the internet?
...
It is one thing to respond saying that to a specific person it does not matter (I can get that), but the responses from people who can't imagine how it could possibly matter to anybody are a bit unexpected.

The division is simple really -- jobs where who you are married to is material (politician, or a serious security clearance is required), and those where it isn't. Obviously if you intend to run for office, porn stars are not for you.

One example given above was of someone parading his slutty girlfriend and getting fired. That's the point -- you do not need to advertise. Doesn't matter if your boss is a born again, if they haven't a clue who your spouse is. It is none of their business, unless you are stupid enough to make it their business. At worst some HR drones will know from your benefits/insurance forms that you are married to Jane YourLastNameHere, and that will mean absolutely nothing to them even if they know your wife's nom du porn and frantically jerk off to her DVDs nightly.

If you are married to an ex porn star, you don't fraternize with your co-workers. It is very easy not to.

If you have burning ambition and want to be a CEO, you need to start your own company if you have a porn wife.

Not true. My ex- cunt was an evil demon (not a succubus tho...then she'd have had to have sex with me) long before we divorced. Quick example: When my dad died, I had the week off because my company gives a week's bereavement time. He died on a Tuesday and the funeral was Friday. Much had to be done. One of the days I was pretty much out of the house for the day...meeting with the preacher, the funeral director, trying to keep my mom from coming unhinged. When I got home, she asked where I'd been. I gave her a quick summary. Her reply was that she thought I was out paying bills, but that couldn't be because I never payed any bills. (towards the end money became her hammer because I wouldn't rise to her attempts to fight with me and I stopped caring that wouldn't fuck me..but she knew money and bills hit me where I lived, so it was pretty effective) On Thursday morning of that week, it became apparent to her I wasn't going to work. She asked, I told her I wasn't. "You can't tell me you're going to take this whole week off". It was that week that I realized the bith was fucking crazy and that I needed out.

OK. I get it now. You just had it presented a different way. I can agree with this scenario. I still kind of disagree with the class issue, but I can see how certain jobs/ bosses might be problematic. I doubt my job would like it, but I guess it would be a matter of discretion. I mean, who wants to be the guy who walks into the bosses office and say "i was watching an interracial gangbang scene and so and so's wife was the guest of honor". I can see how it might cause trouble. I guess that's the decision you have to make. Can you steel yourself enough to be prepared for the day your secret comes out.

Barry

I think you're getting close. I also suspect you are a bit smarter and more honest than the average person here.

I used to scrub toilets and mop floors and had a thousand other menial labor shit jobs I hated and I bit my fucking tongue and I did every one of them better than anybody else around me. I enlisted in the military to "escape". And I moved on.

I see a movie like "Sexy Beast" and I get a bit nostalgic and sentimental. A man is unapologetically in love with his ex-pornstar wife and happy. I pop into XPT and surf a little porn and I see pages of beautiful, sexy women who I'd love to spend a night with... I'd love to spend a life with. I think to myself, "What a silly fantasy! You know you could never be with a porn star." It makes me a bit sad and conflicted. I decide to post a new thread to discuss it and I'm met with a slightly more diplomatic version of:

"YO Doood, u be wack, everybody be luvin it if they girl was a big ole porn whore with the big titties and the tight pussie you could fuck every night and all those guys down at my parole office would have to give up mad props, yo!"

I get that. But I guess the real question is do you love the girl or the image? I've always had a thing for Ava Devine (feel free to start shitting on me) but I always knew that it was the image that turned me on. In some weird universe that she and I were to connect somehow, there's no way it could work. Sure, she's a freak and all, but I have the feeling she has little control over her sexually acting out. And that would get very old very fast. I'm not sure I'd care what my boss or co- workers thought of me being with a porn chick. I mean, I've told them about hooker experiences I've had...I think just to make them uncomfortable more than anything. But the big stumbling block would be me. My SO coming home with parolee stink on her would be too much to bear.

I don't think I could handle marrying an active PW personally. If it was something from her past, I don't think I would have a second thought about it.I do think there are a few PW's that would be a blast to hang with for the night and party.Crackheads, meth monsters or flakes need not apply.

I didn't call the term "porn actress" an oxymoron because it fits the strict linguistic definition. It doesn't. I did it to express my feeling that the acting in porn movies is usually so bad that the words "porn" and "actress" are incongruous to me. Incongruous to the point of contradiction.

Sometimes people claim that a pair of terms is an oxymoron for humorous effect. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

1. Fuck 'em all but nine. If that's who I wanted to be with, fuck it. I don't need to kiss anyone's ass so hard they tell me who I can marry.

2. In my experience, many women who have experience in the sex industry tend to look at sex as a commodity. Many of them have trouble with intimacy. There may be many exceptions, so please don't anyone get miffed, just what I've experienced.

The acting in porn flicks is actually quite good. Many PWs are able to convince the viewer that they are enjoying the sex.

When I was starting out in my career I would have been terrified of what my bosses/colleagues and friends would think if I was to date or marry a girl in the sex industry. However, I have now reached such a stage in my career and life generally that I don't give a shit what others think. I have also seen my colleagues have absolutely disastrous marriages with 'respectable' women - I am sure none of those colleagues would think ill of me for marrying a porn star given their own past experiences with marriage.

Sure, I would accept that I could never run for public office, and office juniors would wink, nudge and titter behind my back. But neither of those aspects would concern me these days.

Marilyn Chambers: People say, "Are you just acting?" Well, you can't act when you've got a fist up your butt.

That's why many enjoy extreme porn: not so much for the acts themselves, but to guarantee that the reactions aren't fake. Whoever does the first No Faking Allowed line (and means it) will clean up. It is more erotic to watch a porn bimbette hating every second of the sex and thinking about her paycheck, than have a bunch of fake Teri Weigelish screams and moans.

I'll prob regret this but I'll bite...

I'm a voracious reader. I'll read pretty much anything and go through 2-3 books a week. I'm esp. fond of crime novels, true crime and period books. (as in time period...not menstrual for those literary challenged.). My all time fav. book since I was a kid is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. Set in turn of the century Brooklyn.

Thanks. Any favourite crime writers? (I don't know much about crime novels. Tom Clancy is probably not a crime novelist?)

You miss the point. It isn't about the woman. It is about the people you must associate with (like them or hate them) and how it may impact your career. Don't you think you can find a woman who likes sex who didn't become a porn whore? Does every woman who didn't decide to make a porn movie hate sex?

Would you sacrifice a successful career to be with a porn whore? What about a prostitute?

Date one and you are a hero. Marry one and you have "issues".

Society is about acceptable norms. Example: Married guy living in a family neighborhood is accepted and included by all the married-family neighbors. Guy gets a divorce but stays in the neighborhood, he becomes a pariah. Same guy, same neighbors.

Most people don't marry other people who fuck on camera and show the movies to the world. Whether you consider it ok or not is not the point. It is outside the social norms, and therefore no good for being accepted. Dating one is a temporary fantasy and just playing around. Change the subject to devil worshipers, bondage types or followers of Santería and you get the same result. You don't fit in.

Job applications these days have drug tests, criminal checks, reference checks and previous job histories. Why? Companies do not want a potentially embarrassing situation on their hands. Head of Corporate Council's wife on youtube shoving a beer bottle up her ass? Not good publicity.

Is he or she a good person? Soul mate? Does not matter in the context of your query.

Marry one? Not advisable. All women fuck. Want good fucking? Find a horny housewife that wants to play. No need to kill a life in the process.

I missed this post the first few dozen times around. I think you relate to the point I was initially trying to make, Geek. How odd!

Having realized all of what you have just said, would you ever make the sacrifice? If so, for whom?

For novels I like Jeffrey Deaver and James Patterson. For true crime Ann Rule is a fav. Though I like them all.

"Period books" are usually set at a specific time and place in the past. Turn of the century Brooklyn, Victorian London, WW2 Japan, etc...

Can't you get banned from XPT for reading stuff like that?

Not too long ago I finally read "For Whom the Bell Tolls". It was assigned in Secondary School, High School, and College and I never read it until a few months ago.

I read "The Sun Also Rises" many years ago (after also skipping it in school) as a drunken bum in Rota, Spain on a bus ride back from a bullfight in Madrid to Barcelona and loved it. Since then, I try to read something by Hemmingway every year, even if it is a short story.

No matter how much of a "big name" Hemmingway is, he is an under-appreciated genius.

Hemmingway and Wambaugh are writers. Updike is over-rated. Garcia Marquez is a one hit wonder and I don't know Vargas Llosa from a hole in the wall.

Cameron,

Read "The Sun Also Rises" in the summer time while drunk, (preferably overseas in Spain or France) and you will get Hemmingway. Uhm, at least that is what did it for me after hating him for years as an over-rated hack writer. Then try a few selections out of "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" or "A Movables Feast" collections of short stories. I have tried "The Old Man & the Sea" a few times, but never really got it.

Updike is OK, but barely a step above whoever wrote scripts for Gilligan's Island or The Brady Bunch.

Wambaugh huh? I think I've read him, but I'm not sure...will have to check my collection. If not, I'll check him out, thanks!

It isnt that I dont get Hemingway...its just not my cup of tea

I think Hemingway's best stuff is his early short stories like Indian Camp and Big Two-Hearted River. I find his style too monotonous for novel-length writing and his later writing is dragged down by the fact that he's just not that insightful. I think his accomplishment has more to do with what he did with the English language rather than his ideas, which tend to be rather sophomoric.

You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't read F. Scott Fitzgerald's short stories. His novels have always gotten the attention but his collection of short stories contain some real gems.

Marriage is a archaic institution, and I don't wish to be institutionalized. You will only truely know a women when she divorces you. Then you see the succubus demon she truly is

Barry

The modern day Succubus has evolved they attack and drain you on Emotional, Spiritual and Financial levels.
(P.S: sorry to hear about such a fucking hell week for you..dam must have been very stressfull)

Thanx. I appreciate it. It truly was the worst week of my life. My emotions were really really raw. I never expected any support from her, but at the same time I wasn't expecting her to add to the problem. It was like flipping. The day after my dad's service, I woke up and knew it was over. It really made her finally leaving so much easier. When she pulled out of the driveaway that last day, it felt like a a huge 2 ton heavy thing had been lifted off of me.

I was on IV antibiotics and needed help administering them. My ex told me she was going away for the weekend to Gatlinburg[on my fucking money no less] and I asked her who was going to help me with my meds? Her reply ? "That's not my problem !" That's when I threw her out of the house and sent her home to mommy.

I don't quite get the 'period books' thing. Isn't every story set in a certain period of time? Is there a specific period of time you like more than others?

For novels I like Jeffrey Deaver and James Patterson. For true crime Ann Rule is a fav. Though I like them all.

"Period books" are usually set at a specific time and place in the past. Turn of the century Brooklyn, Victorian London, WW2 Japan, etc...

I hate Ann Rule, although her Bundy book was great. I've tried to read her stuff over the years and just find it to be yammering. When she came out with her Green River Killer book, I was done. It was all about her and how threatened she felt by him being in the same neighborhood as her.

I guess I do little fiction. I'm more a history/ current events guy. No writers I particulary favor, tho. Just whatever catches my attention.

I was the same with Orwell. Had 1984 assigned in high school, but I couldn't appreciate it until after after school. Kind of like Disneyland when I was 12. I appreciated it much more when I was 30.

I read it in Grade 7. It fascinated me and let me on a life long interest in the minds of serial killers. We seem to have more than our fair share in the Great Northwest.

I won't spoil the end for you.

Fuck no. Are you out of your mind? "Normal women" have enough issues. Why ask for more problems? And that's before worrying about e esoteric items like career and social standing.

Never heard of Ann Rule or Jeffrey Deaver. James Patterson sounds familiar (I've seen his books), but I've never read anything by him.

Thanks for the answers.

I think I meant to say "I try to read something by Hemmingway every few years..." not every year, heh.

Anyway, no book worth reading can really be appreciated by a teenager, but I think it is important to make introductions to the act and the main contributors to the field anyway.

If you like Orwell, I'd suggest "Down and Out in Paris & London", "The Road to Wigan Pier" and, obviously "Animal Farm" even if you read it as a kid. I read, or re-read, most of Orwell that is readily available after I started reading Christopher Hitchens (a fan and biographer of Orwell). It was after reading Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia" that I decided to go back and read Hemmingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" just a few months ago.

Yes, I assumed that is what you meant. What I meant is you might like the flavor of the tea that Hemmingway makes under the right circumstances and that particular brew might be the most palatable introduction to his brand.

IMO Hemingway's wickedly dark "The Shor Happy Life of Frrancis Macomber" is a great short story, good place to start with Hemmingway. I tremendously enjoyed his novella "The Old Man and the Sea" and his first major novel "A Farewell to Arms". With respect to Updike, I enjoyed the four Rabbit novels, and recommend them. One Hundred Years of Solitude is the place to start with Garcia Marquez, but I also heartily recommend The General in His Labyrinth. Vargas Llosa ought to be more highly regarded in the United States. My favorite work of his is The War at the End of the World, although Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter would probably have more general appeal.

I must be a mutant because I fully appreciated Dune, I Sing the Body Electric, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy while in my teens. I also appreciated The Unbearable Lightness of Being while in my early 20s at the latest.

In the context you asked the question, no I can't see marrying a PW.

There are situations where I could see it. When I was young hell yeah. You'd know it was probably doomed, but it would have certain perks for a young man, at least the young man I was. Partying, drugs, sex...what the hell.

If a guy kept his head on straight and his eyes opened it seems like there would be some great times to be had between "I do" and "get the fuck out".
