I was just there for the first time on Tuesday. What a total shithole. I can now understand why Camden, NJ is called “Little Detroit”. A friend & I drove into some ratty neighborhoods (Delray) looking for stuff to photograph. I’m sure they’re worse neighborhoods, but driving through some of the neighborhoods even gave me a chill momentarily.

Toronto sends all of it's trash to Detroit. I think the deal ends in 2011 but for now it's nice to know my garbage goes to Michigan.

In 1986, I visited a friend getting his masters or Ph.D. in Psych from Wayne State. And, major parts of the city were complete hell holes then. I couldn't believe there was a place worse than Camden. And, then there it was.
I can't imagine how or what could make it worse, but I'd believe that somehow it's worse now.
But, I enjoyed parts of it.
For a '67-68 and Billy Martin Tiger fan such as I, Tiger Stadium was a treat.
Greektown was OK. Food better than OK.
Had the best overall movie experience of my life watching "Aliens" with a vocal ethnic audience whose active participation in the movie added unintended suspense and comedy. Like an unrehearsed "Rocky Horror," with people talking to the screen, giving the actors orders/suggestions/warning, and arguing with each other.
And for some reason, I found it hilarious that we went SOUTH into Canada!!
The only other times I was in Detroit was to change planes [Northwest? I think]

As a Yankee fan, I miss Billy.  I also miss fiery managers in general. When Big George passes it will be a dark day for fans of every team. Whether you love him or hate him, Steinbrenner was good for the sport. He'd spend and do whatever it took to try and win championships. That's what all fans want from there teams owners.

I haven't heard of or seen deer chillin in "The D." Most of the neighborhoods still have people living in them, a block of say 20 homes would have around 8 abandoned.
Part of the problem with the abandoned buildings downtown is whenever the city wants to rip them down, asshole's from the suburbs and hipsters sue to stop them because they claim the structure has "historic value", the old train station is a good example of this.

Kind of amazing, considering the garbage business exploded on the railroad in the past 3 years. Trash from NYC / North Jersey is being dumped in Ohio quite regularly now. 
I wonder why they don’t find a hole up north, hypothetically dug by inmates from Gitmo, and bury it up there, along with some of the war criminals. What a boom that would be for the local railroad, lol.

Yeah, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel goes somewhat SSE into Canaduh. it’s also a major hub for Northwest Airlines, although I don’t know how big a role that will play down the road since they’ve merged with Delta - who has a hub in Cincinnati - 4 hours south of De-twat.
Detroit is staying a hub, Cincy is getting tons of flights cut. While Detroit is a shithole the new airport is great, it's one of the few things the dumbasses in this state got right.
