Anyone can start a corporation. You would start one yourself, for example, if you were entering into a new business venture, and didn't want everything you've ever personally worked for to be taken away because of liability issues (in a lawsuit against your new business, say).

Whether a given incorporated porn company is nasty or not is up for debate; likely not if I understand your standard, simply based on their sizes alone (as compared with GE, Monsanto, etc).

People run companies. Don't blame the intangible legal instrument they operate beneath for liability and ownership reasons; blame the people in the leadership positions.
