A SUSPICIOUS wife posed as a schoolgirl online to catch her pervert husband trying to lure under-age girls for sex.
Mum-of-two Cheryl Roberts, 61, was concerned about the amount of time husband David spent on his computer in his study.
And she was horrified when a graphic message the 68-year-old had sent flashed up on the machine, which had been left on standby while he went out.
It said: "You are a f***ing beautiful b****" and was signed 'Corky', the nickname his wife and other family members knew him by.
But a court heard that instead of confronting him Cheryl created a profile for herself as a 14-year-old — and caught him red-handed.
Suspicious ... Cheryl posed as schoolgirl
She had seen the chatroom her husband was using and waited until he went back online at their home in Bridgend, South Wales.
She then logged on as a schoolgirl to a second computer they owned in a different room and was appalled by what she saw.
Roberts, a former pub landlord, propositioned the 'girl' and asked her to meet him for sex.
As he chatted online he also used a webcam as he performed acts of indecency on himself — which his wife watched on her PC just yards away.
Sickened Cheryl — married to Roberts for 20 years — said nothing to him but went straight to cops and the NSPCC.
Police seized his computer and found dozens of illegal child porn images on it.
A court heard that for weeks Roberts believed he had been caught through downloading them and had no idea he had been shopped by his own wife.
He was stunned when detectives eventually broke the news to him that the 'schoolgirl' he had been chatting up was the woman he was married to.
Roberts admitted engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and making and possessing illegal images.
He was given a three-year community order and banned from having access in person or online to children under the age of 18.
Cardiff Crown Court heard the couple have now split up and are getting divorced.
Prosecutor Martyn Kelly told how Cheryl caught Roberts in the act after seeing his obscene message.
He said: "She realised the message on the screen was one her husband had posted to a young girl.
"She could see the chatroom he was using and decided to catch him out by creating a profile of her own to use the same internet site.
"Her husband had no idea but soon he was chatting with his own wife, believing it was a 14-year-old girl.
"She had decided to pose as a schoolgirl to confirm her fears."
When interviewed Roberts denied having sex with any schoolgirls — but admitted he was "prepared to do so"
Defending, Byron Broadstock, said: "He's brought shame on himself and his family."
