Hiking a few miles through difficult terrain works just as well as running all day on level ground. (If you have bad knees this works a lot better than running.) Drink more water and less alcohol (and less soda and energy drinks for that matter too). You don't have to torture yourself at every meal either. Just replace the junk you eat during one of them with something good for you. For the last couple of years I have been eating salads for breakfast instead of eggs, pancakes, and greasy meat. The rest of my diet is pretty much the same though I have also decreased my pizza intake by at least half in the last year or so.
