yesterday a student gave me a gift....I was curious after our first day introductions about his job...He works on a hunting farm and shared a few stories...Me being the big city girl have never seen such animals besides the normal ducks and geese.

Well yesterday he brought me a pheasant to school....I really thought I was gonna be able to kill this thing myself or at least take it to a butcher.....That was pre swine flu diagnosis.

Long story short I brought the thing home and put it in a cage...thinking I was going to take it to a butcher to have killed.....but I can't be around people until Wednesday....

I decided to clean out the cage and now the damn thing won't go back in the cage...he keeps hissing at me

Gia...I thought he was beautiful too until he started fluttering around my house hissing at me and not going back in the cage......

after a 3 hour fight and many rest periods......i finally had to put my big girl pants on and just grab him..

be careful. wear long sleeves so you don't get scratched.

Can you clip its wings and keep it in an (enclosed) garden? Cleaning pheasant poop must be annoying.

He can't hurt you. Just grab his body with your left hand and pull him into your body. Take your right hand and grab his head and twist it off. Then take your right thumb and feel down to the bottom of his breastplate. Shove your thumb through the skin below the breastplate and peel the skin and feathers back off the breast- left and right side. Break off the wings as you get to them and peel the skin around off it's back. Take your fingers and wipe out the entrails, rinse under cold water and drain.

Then find your favorite pheasant recipe.
