I know cancer has been a topic of discussion on here, so I thought this might be interesting.

this is old news... I have been taking chapparal since six months after I was diagnosed with CML and this was a few years ago.

It's definitely helped me unless it's a coincidence. I never told and haven't told my oncologist that I've been taking it but also I take it two to three weeks straight and take a week and a half break to cleanse the liver and give it a rest.

Technically you should do this with all and many of herbal supplements (dietary supplements) even prescription medicine but why would doctors tell you that? The Food and Drug administration wouldn't be making as much money as it does. Partially the reason.

Up until a couple months ago I thought the U.S. made chapparal illegal and notified all retailers to take it off the shelves by a certain date. WHich is when my aunt purchased in bulk from Arizona over the internet. Since then I never bothered checking it out on the net. But I guess it looks like it's still legal. GOod for me and others.

As I don't have tumors being that my cancer is a blood cancer, I've been told continuously that the cancer cells appear to be overcome rather quickly compared to someone else my age doing the same treatment. Little does he know I take this herbal supplement. Which convinces me that this works.

Who knows!

A good friend of mine is a medical researcher at UBC and is also family practitioner. He has always said whenever something is pulled by the US or Canada and it's herbal, it's either because it doesn't mix well with a common prescription drug or is better than it's perscribed counterpart.

"A Barefoot Doctor's Manual" is an excellent book describing a myriad of herbal remedies. It was originally distributed by the Chines government so that the outlying villages could take care of there sick without the need for government help.

Those reasons for taking a herbal supplement off shelves sounds reasonable but I don't buy it, there's gotta be more reasons.

I luv ya' Gen, but those reasons are only reasonable to drug companies.

It sounds to me like the drug companies want you to have to buy their product, and the gov backs them by outlawing herbals that work as well or better, or that have drug interactions because one might choose the herbal over the other.

I'm strictly speaking based on what I've read in this thread, but I would hate to hear that you(or anyone) couldn't get something that helps simply because it harms US drug companies' business.

The problem with "eastern" medicine is that many of the herbs are relatively unstudied and often are more than placebos. When actually studied, some of them turn out like Aristolochia or comfrey. The former was labelled a carcinogen in 2 seconds by the NEJo'Medicine and is responsible for dozens of deaths. Even stuff that was "good' yesterday like Kava now seems to cause irreversible liver damage, st.john's wort probably increases probability of mania when an undiagnosed bipolar takes it, etc.
At least you'll have someone to sue with merck, and they are pulling stuff off market in the prescription world for more trivial side-effects than in the past.
You're better off taking as little as possible, "eastern" anything probably should be avoided unless one's situation is like gen's. Not to mention, Asia's history with plagues and failure to control them makes me lean towards the people who hooked us up with pennicillin and azt.

Now that is some good info. I enjoy my manic episodes. *off to the herbal shop*

By the way, I love the way you worded this sentence. It probably increases the probability . . . . pure genius, and I'm not being facetious. I like it.

Damn, I feel like I've already taken some of the ol' wort compound.
