Carter got the Presidents of Israel and Egypt in the same room and they didn't try to kill each other. It may not seem like much now but the Camp David accords were miraculous at the time, almost as amazing as Nixon-to-China.

The Camp David accords may have been more of a result of Sadat's desires to focus on Egypt rather than than Carter's goals, but if the Nobel Peace Prize is about brokering impossible peace agreements, Carter qualifies.
