Since the conquistadores destroyed about 90% of the Mayan codices, we have limited knowledge of Mayan astronomy. December 21, 2012 represents the end of the "long count" calendar and it is remarkable that the Maya were able to forecast to the day the occurrence of a rare galactic alignment. Mayan cosmology regards this alignment as portentious as it involves their beliefs as to the creation and destruction of the universe.

It is very early to forecast the Super Bowl, since the teams to that win the conference championships are often those that "catch the wave" from mid-season through the playoffs. I like the ability of the Steelers defense to make big plays and was impressed by the Cardinals victory over the Giants. Right now a rematch seems a good guess.
