We only went to the homes of people who did not mail in their census forms, which is probably close to 1/3 of the population. You were lucky to get only the short form. In 1980, when I worked for the Census Bureau, there were three forms of varying length. The longest form, which went to 1 of every ten households, took more than an hour to fill out. The information collected goes far beyond merely identifying the number of people living in a household.
I only get one sheet of paper. I usually don't have to do anything except sign it and mail it because all the information they have is still the same as it should be.
I don't understand how someone can be so offended by a census form. They probably assume it's big brother watching.
But they have to know how many people live in a city/town so to know how much aid and services to ask the state and federal government for whatever assistance they may need in the future. Am I right on that?
its just that mainly...they dont want internet, running water or telephones. So let them have NOTHING. They must actually like it there or they would move into the city and go swim in the "cement pond"
