It isn't just hillbillyland where they don't like census workers. I was a census worker during the summer between high school and college. I can't tell you the number of threats I received from nuts on the left or right. I was either a communist or a nazi. There were also many people who welcomed me into their homes because they were "glad someone from the government" finally showed up to solve all of their problems. These sad, stupid people thought that I, a 17-year old census-taker, had the power to make them less stupid and their lives less sad because I was "a government official". They were disappointed when I just wanted to know the number of people and toilets in their houses. It was during that summer that I first learned that the average American is fucking stupid.
