this is awesome, albeit old news to some- The Rum Diary, Hunter S. Thompson's first novel, has been adapted for film for release in 2010. if you're drawing a blank on HST (idiot) think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

unsurprisingly, Johnny Depp once again plays as Thompson's literary alter-ego -- let's face it, no one else has any business playing a Hunter alt after Depp's masterwork in Fear & Loathing, not even Jim B (i kid!). and anyone that thinks Depp's quirky jack sparrow character in those shitty Pirates movies - the mannerisms and gesticulations - isn't rooted in studying and living with HST, is kidding themselves.
