Since you're not American I can't tell if you're just pulling Sasha's pigtails or are unfamiliar with the idiom.

"Pete" for some reason is used in place of "God"/"Christ" in mild swears. So, for example, "for Christ's sake" becomes "for Pete's sake" and "for the love of God" becomes "for the love of Pete".

It's a mostly mid-western Protestant peculiar little way of not using "God's name in vain".

Why that is, I've never understood or fully investigated. Oddly I've heard some use "Pete" as a stand-in for the devil was well.
