Pretty much him and Berry Gordy wrote most of hits of the earlier Mo Town acts like The Miracles and The Temptations. Oddly enough, one of my favorite Miracles jams came after Smokey left and had Billy 'Love Machine' Griffin take over on lead vocals: Do it baby which was written by in-house producer and engineer Freddie Perren who decided to go full force with the funk on this one.
